Announcements for March 14, 2021

immanuelosmond | 12 March, 2021 12:42

WE WELCOME EVERYONE who has worshipped with us this morning. We hope you will be able to worship with us again soon.

OUR READER for this morning is Ross Stelling. Wednesday evening and next Sunday our reader will be Paul Koehler. Helping with communion next week will be Larry Krohn and Ed Brummels.

CANDLELIGHTERS for this morning are Karter Johnson and Hudson Schultze. Wednesday evening they will be Zaylah Pfanstiel and Tucker von Rentzell. Next Sunday they will be Caden Wingert and Spencer Hille.

THE SUNDAY MORNING ADULT BIBLE CLASS is going through a series entitled: “Dangerous Teachings of Christianity.” Because each week is a “stand alone” lesson, you can join class any given week and “jump right in.” Today’s study revolves around the Bible as a dangerous teaching of Christianity. Today’s study is very pertinent because we are living in a cancel culture where things are “canceled” because they do not fit the politically correct narrative. For example, a few days ago six Dr. Seuss books were cancelled. If the cancelling trend continues, many books and ideas will be cancelled. But the Bible is the most likely book to be cancelled because it teaches the inspired Word of God that is foolishness to those who do not believe.

HELP NEEDED! Help is needed for the remodel project – taking out pews, altar, etc. before the old carpet can be taken up and new carpet laid and then placing the pews, altar, etc. back after carpet installation. Please contact either Wayne Koehler at 402-750-4192 or Jordan Koehler at 402-679-7063.

CHOIR will meet at 8:30 AM, then sing at worship on Sunday, March 28th. They will also practice on Wednesday, March 31st at 7:00 PM and on April 4th, Easter Sunday, at 8:30 AM and sing at the 9:30 AM Easter service.

LYF MEMBERS: Please remember that there will be skit practice for the Sunrise Easter service this afternoon at 1:30 p.m.

THANK YOU to the congregation for the greetings and cards for my birthday and ordination anniversary. Thank you to the 5th and 6th grade midweek confirmation class for recognizing my birthday at midweek Lent fellowship time. Thank you! God has been and continues to be very gracious to me. Pastor Lilienkamp

MAIN STREET LIVING: What is proper when Christians face adversity is discussed in this episode “Time Out for Bill” on This Is the Life. Worship Service – Rev. G. Clausen of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Sheldon, IA, delivers the message “Saved by Grace Through Faith” based on Ephesians 2:1-10. These shows air today beginning at 10:00 AM on KCAU-9 TV out of Sioux City.

CALL UPDATE: A call list has been received from the Nebraska LCMS District office. The Elders are working on contacting those listed.

THRIVENT MEMBERS: The deadline for designating your 2020 Thrivent Choice dollars is March 21, 2021.

THE LUTHERAN HOUR: Each week the nation’s longest-running Christian radio broadcast speaks to more than a million people about the matchless love of God as revealed in His Son Jesus Christ. Today, "Widow's Mite" - Why did Jesus commend a poor widow who gave all her money to a corrupt institution that oppressed widows? Dr. Michael Zeigler takes a deeper look. (Mark 12: 13-34)

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Looking for 2-3 volunteers who would be willing to take care of flowers for Christmas, Easter, funerals or any other events during the year here at Immanuel. If interested, please contact Mike Johnson at 402-649-7914 or the church office. Thank you!

SERMON SERIES FOR LENT & HOLY WEEK: The 40-day journey of Lent begins with the communion service on Ash Wednesday, February 17 at 7:00 PM. The Lenten services will use a weekly recitation of the Six Chief Parts of Luther’s Small Catechism. By reviewing the parts of the catechism, we can re-affirm the faith that we confess and live. The sermons will focus on the atoning blood of Jesus. These sermons will challenge us to cling to the Sacrament of the Altar where the body and blood of Christ are given for us. The sermon themes are as follows: March 17: “Shared Blood” Hebrews 2:10–18 March 24: “The Blood That Sanctifies” Hebrews 13:9-16 April 2: Maundy Thursday: “The Blood of the Covenant” Exodus 24:3–11 April 3: Good Friday: “A Rich Burial” Isaiah 53:9 April 4: Easter Sunrise: LYF message (followed by LYF Breakfast) April 4: Easter: “With Him through Death” Daniel 3:1–29; 1 Peter 3:17–22; Matthew 27:57–66
