Announcements at Immanuel

Announcements for week of March 29, 2020

immanuelosmond | 30 March, 2020 11:53

Spiritual Nourishment: We want to encourage all of you to use daily devotion and Bible reading to be strengthened for the days ahead. Use your hymnal as a resource. We also have Portals of Prayer at church if you would like written materials. If you have Internet capability, you can also access both a written and spoken version of daily devotions prepared by Lutheran Hour Ministries. Simply go to, click on Daily Devotion and push the play arrow. How many of you remember the TV program, “This Is the Life,” produced in the 1950’s? This program is shown each Sunday morning at 10:00 am on Sioux City Channel 9. While the acting and production is from the “Leave It to Beaver” era, the spiritual and religious lessons are very appropriate for our day.

Worship Participation: During this time when we will not be meeting together physically, you can participate in worship by listening to an abbreviated LCMS worship service presented by Main Street Living. That program is shown every Sunday morning at 10:30 and is led by a regional LCMS pastor. You can tune in to Sioux City Channel 9 for this half hour service. Be sure to have your hymnal nearby so that you can follow along with the liturgy and sing along with the hymns. The readings are current each Sunday so you don’t miss the progression of lessons in the church year.

The Lord’s Supper: One of the best encouragements we can ever receive, in good times and bad, is the gift of Jesus’ body and blood in the Holy Supper. We do not want anyone to be deprived of this wonderful gift. You are invited to come to church for The Lord’s Supper on those Sundays when we normally have Communion (the next one will be April 5). The hours will be during the normal worship time, 9:30 – 11:00 am. Pastor and the Elders will be there to direct you and administer the gift of Communion. We will have a brief liturgy along with the Lord’s Supper as we gather at His altar! We ask that you park on the west side of church and wait to be ushered into church by an Elder. We will limit the number of people to 10 and under, and by waiting in your car, we will be able to stay under this number and control the exposure for everyone involved.

Shut-in Visitation: This activity is pretty much on hold until we are told it is safe and permitted. However, in an emergency, Pastor is willing and able to come to you to provide care. BUT, you need to call or text him, or he won’t know of your need. His number is (402)358-0932. Hospitalizations and deaths will be handled on an individual basis.

Church Offerings: As you can imagine, the church and our ministry still need your generous offerings to be able to bring Jesus to people. When we don’t meet weekly, it is possible that the coffers could run thin. Please remember to prayerfully and generously support the work being done at Immanuel. You may mail in your contribution, or you may drop it off at the church office during normal office hours (8 am – Noon daily). Please be sure to use your offering envelope so that you get proper credit for your gift.

Confirmation: We have tentatively rescheduled Confirmation to Sunday, May 24. Details about all Confirmation activities will be forthcoming. There is no parents’ meeting on March 22.

Holy Week and Easter: We are assuming at this moment that the quarantine will last beyond Holy Week and Easter. Therefore, the following plans have been made. Should the quarantine be lifted in time, we will hold these services as originally scheduled. Please watch for future announcements. An online viewing of a special Easter service (via the church website,, will be available on Easter weekend (April 12). We will also produce a DVD for those without Internet capability. We want you to know that Easter is still Easter, and Jesus is still risen from the dead! We welcome a message from you letting us know if you would like a DVD so that we can coordinate distribution to you.

Voters’ Meetings: At this time, both the special voters’ meeting scheduled for March 22, and the regularly scheduled council and voters’ meeting are postponed to a time to be announced later. The April meetings could still be held if the quarantine is lifted in time. Please watch for announcements.
