MIDWEEK AND CONFIRMATION CLASSES for students in the 5th through 8th grade will begin this Wednesday afternoon, September 7th, at 3:45 p.m.

 

AN ADULT CONFIRMATION CLASS for adults who are interested in learning what LCMS Lutherans teach and believe, will begin a week from Monday, September 12th at 7:00 p.m.  If you, or someone you know, is interested in communicant membership please take time out for this class and contact Pastor at 748-3649 or on his cell at 402-360-2856 in advance.

 

THE CHOIR WILL RESUME NEXT SUNDAY MORNING, September 11th at   8:30 a.m.  All members of Immanuel, high school age through adult, are invited to come and join. 

 

THE MEMBERS OF FIRST TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH will celebrate their annual Fall Festival on Sunday, September 18th.  They will serve a roast beef dinner which will consist of roast beef, mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans, a dinner roll, and a salad and dessert bar.  The meal will be served from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.  The cost will be $8.00 for adults, $4.00 for children under the age of 10.  A Country Store will also be provided.  Members of Immanuel are invited to attend.

WE REMEMBER IN OUR PRAYERS TODAY:  Arleath Blunck, Byron Gutz, Bernice Kumm, Bud Veik, Roger Hartner, and Allyson  Dahlin.  We also include a prayer for Tyler and Tiffany Gansebom, who were united in marriage yesterday.   We join Aaron and Tami (Luhr) Schutt in giving thanks for the gift of a baby girl, Madilyn Paige Marie, on Wednesday, August 17th and we rejoice with Ervin and Lorena Kumm, who will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on Thursday, September 1st.  If you have prayer requests for family or friends, please notify Pastor or the church secretary to have them added and also removed.

 

A FAREWELL RECEPTION for Vicar Michael and Rachael Erdman will be held during the fellowship hour following the morning worship service this morning in conjunction with Sunday School Promotion.  Everyone is invited to stay and bid them farewell.

UPDATE ON THRIVENT DAY AT THE STATE FAIR:  The Pierce County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans still has seats available on the bus to attend the Nebraska State Fair on September 1stPlease note the new changes!!  There will be NO CHARGE FOR THE BUS RIDE, THE TICKET TO GET INTO THE FAIR OR FOR THE THRIVENT LUNCHEON, EVERYTHING IS FREE!!  ALSO, it is now open to everyone, not just Thrivent members.  If you would like to reserve your place, please contact:  Pastor Jerome or Kristie Leckband at (402)329-4262.  Or email your reservation to piercecountythrivent@gmail.com.   

 

THE THRIVENT BUS going to the State Fair this Thursday, September 1 will load at 9:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Plainview then proceed to pick up at the Churckwagon in Foster; then Zion, Pierce; and then Immanuel, Hadar.  Reservations are required.

THANK YOU to everyone who came to help mow the church cemetery last week. The turnout was great and your willingness to help is very much appreciated.

A BENEFIT FOR ANGIE BAHR RAFERT is being held today from 11:00 A.M. TO 4:00 P.M. at the Plainview Country Club (north side).  Pulled pork sandwiches, salads, cake, bars, water, iced tea and lemonade will be served for a free-will donation.  An account has been established at Midwest Bank in Plainview for donations from those unable to attend the benefit.  Supplemental funds provided by Thrivent for Lutherans.  See the poster posted in the front entry of the church for more information.

 

THE LHNE 15TH ANNUAL BEEF BLAST is being held today beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the LHNE Campus, 1 ¾ miles north of Hwy 275 on 37th Street.  Enjoy fun, food and fello3wship with your friends!  A picnic style meal of Hot Roast Beef Sandwiches, Salad, Homemade Ice Cream will be served for a Freewill donation.  Matching gift opportunities are available.  Hundreds of items are to purchase are available at the Silent and Live Auctions.  All proceeds to benefit LHNE students.  Games for the kids and pony rides will be outside the building, with all other events being held inside.  Entertainment will be by the Eagle Talons Dance Team and LHNE Cheerleaders.

 

MIDWEEK AND CONFIRMATION CLASSES for students in the 5th through 8th grades will begin on the Wednesday after Labor Day, September 7th.  Classes will be held from 3:45 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. every Wednesday, unless there is no school or school is dismissed early or announced otherwise

 

CHURCH DINNER !!!  We need two co-chairs by September 1st to help in the planning process.  If we do not have two volunteers we will not be able to have the dinner, instead, everyone will be asked to make a monetary donation.

 

THANK YOU!!  The Sunday School was able to collect over 200 pairs of shoes for “Soles for Souls”.  Special thanks to Don and Joan Streich and Smoky and Joan Schultze for delivering the shoes to the Iowa Warehouse.

THE FALL QUARTER OF SUNDAY SCHOOL will begin on Sunday, September 4th.  A sign-up sheet for volunteer Sunday School Teachers is posted in the rear of the church.  If you would be willing to volunteer, please sign your name on the line beside the class that you would like to teach.

 

THRIVENT DAY AT THE NEBRASKA STATE FAIR – The Pierce County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will be sponsoring a bus for Thrivent members and their guests to the Nebraska State Fair on Thursday, September 1.  Thrivent members should have received an invitation in the mail.  There is no cost for the bus ride.  The only cost is your ticket into the fair.  To reserve your place contact;  Pastor Jerome or Kristi Leckband at (402) 329-4262.  Or email your reservation to piercecountythrivent@gmail.com.  The deadline is August 26.

THE LUTHERAN HOUR-PEOPLE OF CHRIST WITH THE MESSAGE OF HOPE—The family of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Carlson is sponsoring today’s Lutheran Hour broadcast in memory of Floyd and Mildred.  Floyd Carlson entered eternal glory August 21, 2000 and Mildred Carlson entered eternal glory on December 13, 2004.  The Lutheran Hour is broadcast each Sunday on WJAG (AM – 780 & FM – 105.9) at 12:30 P.M. as a project of Zone 11 of the Nebraska District Lutheran Laymen’s League.  Thank you to the Carlson family for their assistance in “Bringing Christ to the Nations and the Nations to the Church.”

THE SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL is focusing on lending a hand to others through “Soles 4 Souls”.  This organization collects slightly used shoes (infant thru adult sizes) and distributes them all over the US and the world.  Our shoe drive will finish up on Sunday, August 21st.  Look for boxes located in both entries of the church and also at the Osmond Public Library.

WE WISH TO THANK THE CONGREGATION for the opportunity to purchase our own home.  The parsonage was wonderful and really was “home” to us for nearly 14 years.  Our desire to own had nothing to do with wanting out of the parsonage!  It will take awhile, but the house on Hill Street will become home to us well into our retirement years.

            Our thanks are overdue to all the wonderful members who have helped us in this endeavor in so many ways.  The boxes, the painting, the lifting, the trailers, the meals, the yard work, assistance in unmentionable ways have all been so wonderful and welcome.  We hesitate to mention names because some have helped without our knowledge and we wouldn’t want to overlook anyone.  But many of you helped on big move days, not only once but some came back for more in the brutal heat!  The young legs were especially good help to us all.  Thank you, everyone of you!

Now if we can only get Pastor out of the yard and the garage…

BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT:  Amy and Robert Smith announce the birth of a daughter, Natalie Rose, born on Friday, June 10th.  Amy is the daughter of Pastor and Sarah and lives with her husband Robert in Oklahoma City.  Natalie weighed 10 pounds and is 20 inches long and is welcomed home by a brother Andrew and a sister Megan.  Sarah is planning to stay in Oklahoma to help out for the remainder of the week.

THANKS TO THE GENEROSITY of the members of Immanuel, the members of the LWML were able to send 45 Hygiene Kits to the Orphan Grain Train for the Gifts From the Heart Campaign.

 

WE WELCOME TRACY JENSEN and her daughters, Jessica, Leslie, Holly and Allyson as members of Immanuel., as they have transferred their church membership from Zion Lutheran Church, Pierce, to Immanuel, Osmond. 

 

 A COUPLE OF 2011 CAMP LUTHER CAMP BROCHURES are on the ledge below the bulletin boxes in the rear of the church.  If you are interested in camp at Camp Luther please feel free to pick one up.  If they are all gone, please contact Denise in the church office for more information.

 

OSMOND’S FORMER VICAR CHET SCHERBARTH is planning to be Ordained on August 14th.  He has asked Pastor Trowbridge to deliver the message at his Ordination and if at all possible, Pastor plans to do so.

WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON BIBLE STUDY will be held this Wednesday, June 8th at 1:30 p.m. at the home of Joan Gansebom.

 

THE LYF will meet this Wednesday evening, June 8th at 7:00 p.m.

 

THE LADIES AID will meet this Thursday afternoon, June 9th at 2:00 p.m.

 

SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL plans are being made.  Each of the three sessions, will have different activities.  If your family can only attend certain sessions, that is fine.  We will have a sign-up sheet in back of the church to know how many people to plan on.  The first Summer Sunday School is scheduled for next Sunday, Sunday, June 12, during the Sunday School hour.  Any questions?  Call Linda Gutz at 748-3539.

 

PARENTS TAKE NOTE!!  Pastor is asking for new or current pictures of your children, so that he can update his bulletin board of Jesus’ Little Lambs, which is hanging in the west entrance of the church.  We are still looking for more pictures.

 

FIRST TRINITY LADIES AID OF BLOOMFIELD’S GUEST NIGHT will be held this Tuesday evening, June 7th at 7:00 p.m.  If you would like to carpool to Bloomfield, please meet, here at church at 6:15 p.m.

 

THE OSMOND HOSPITAL HEALTH FAIR:  Osmond General Hospital will be hosting their annual Health Fair on Thursday, June 9th, at the Osmond City Auditorium from 7 a.m. – 12:00 NOON.  Free blood sugar screenings and blood pressure checks.  Health screening of 8 tests will be available at a special rate of $35.00.  Fasting is suggested for best results.  Other screenings available for a small fee.  Contact OGH (402-748-3393) for more information.

THE LWML MITE BOX is on the cart in the rear of the church.  If you have a mite box at home that you would like to empty into the larger mite box, please bring it in on any Sunday morning and do so.

REMINDER:  The First Trinity Ladies Aid of Bloomfield invites you to join us on Tuesday, June 7, at 7:00 P.M.  We welcome the return of guest speaker, Cherrie Beam-Clarke as she presents “Grit N Gumption.”  This presentation is made possible by the Nebraska Humanities Council and the First Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid of Bloomfield as part of the NHC Speakers Bureau.  Please join us on Tuesday, June 7, at 7:00 P.M. at the First Trinity Fellowship Hall for an evening of entertainment and fellowship.  If you would like to carpool to Bloomfield, please meet, here at church, at 6:15 P.M.  (Posters with more information are posted in both entries of the church).

 

A THANK YOU has been received from David Dahlin and Tracy Jensen and family for everything that the members of Immanuel have done for them since the birth of their daughter Allyson.  The funds that were raised during the fellowship hour, hosted by the Fellowship Committee, following the Lenten service plus the Thrivent supplementary funds totaled $1,746.21 and has been given to Allyson’s family.  Thanks Again!!!
