MAKE PLANS TO ATTEND LENTEN SERVICES BEGINNING THIS WEEK ON ASH WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2013

From the day of His baptism where the Scripture in St. Luke’s Gospel says Jesus was praying, remaining in constant fellowship with His Father was a keynote of our Lord’s ministry.  It’s a difficult concept to embrace for human beings.  Jesus Christ was, according to our confessions, true God, the Second Person of the Holy Trinity.  Jesus was with God and was God in the beginning and at the same time He was true man, always subservient to the Father’s will and purpose.  Perhaps the most important lesson God’s people could learn today is the Lord’s constant devotion to prayer.  Seeking the strength of His Father to fulfill the purpose of His coming among men was uppermost in His example.

With our fast-paced lives, nobody has to tell us that our prayer lives fall short, and woefully short of the Lord’s example.  Our Lenten journey will help us key in on how and when our Lord spent time in fervent prayer as he prepared to suffer and die for our sins.  May this time and the Lord’s example help us to redouble our efforts to communicate with our God in prayer.

Ash Wednesday, Feb. 13         “Courage to Submit”     Luke 22:39-46

Midweek 2, Feb. 20                 “Alone in a Crowd”      Luke 5:12-16

Midweek 3, Feb. 27                 “Awake at Night”         Luke 6:12-16

Midweek 4, March 6                “The Journey Ahead”    Luke 9:18-24

Midweek 5, March 13      “The Right Way to Pray”      Luke 11:1-4

Midweek 6, Mar. 20        “(Un) finished Business”   Luke 23:34, 46

Lenten Services will beheld on Wednesday evening’s at 7:30 p.m. beginning with Ash Wednesday worship services with Holy Communion this Wednesday, February 13th.

LWML MEMBERS are reminded that they will be packing Cheer Plates in the kitchen this morning following the worship services.

THE SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER SIGN-UP SHEET FOR THE NEXT QUARTER is in the back of the church.  Why should I sign up to teach?  Here are just a few reasons.

  1. Children are a blessing from God and they matter to Him
  2. Taking the time to love and teach the children will influence them in the future, when they become parents and leaders.
  3. Most people will come to Christ when they are young.  These are the greatest years of opportunity to open them to the Gospel.
  4. Teaching is an act of service that is done quietly, the rewards will come in God’s own time.

If you love God and His children, then there are many different ways for you to help.  Look within yourselves and let’s keep the YOUth in God’s heart.

THE FOLLOWING LETTER HAS BEEN RECEIVED FROM REV. TIM AND LISA BECKENDORF:

Dear Friends at Immanuel,

Thank you very much for your continued gifts to Lutheran Bible Translators for our ministry among the Khwe.  We certainly appreciate you thinking of us and supporting the work of Bible translation.

We are all doing well and are enjoying a few days off for the New Year’s holidays before we start back up with work again.

Work will be nothing too new; some corrections need to be made on the sections of Genesis which were recently consultant checked, and Moses will continue drafting parts of 2 Samuel while Splash works in the Gospels on the parables of Jesus.

At the same time we are starting to plan for our furlough which is coming up this summer (how time flies!)  We have a lot of travel plans to make since we want to visit as many churches and supporters as possible.  Of course, visiting you there in Osmond will be the high point of our trip.

Thank you again for supporting us and our ministry.

God Bless,  Rev. Tim and Lisa

                                    Aaron and Andrew

                                      Beckendorf

CHRISTMAS FROM A-FAHR-Live Nativity will honor memory of Pastor Fahr.  In a gesture of admiration, the members of First Trinity Lutheran Church are dedicating this year’s Live Nativity presentation to the memory of Pastor Duane Fahr.

Pastor Fahr served the members of First Trinity for nearly eight years. His unexpected death in April sent shock waves through the congregation and community.

Beginning in 2007, Pastor Fahr and the members of First Trinity presented a Live Nativity for Bloomfield and surrounding communities.  Pastor Fahr was instrumental in writing, planning and directing each special performance.  As time drew near to begin planning for this years event, first thoughts for many were, “can we do this without Pastor?”  Members knew Pastor Fahr would have wanted them to carry on – telling the story of the birth of Jesus Christ.  Organizers felt like this was the perfect time to honor the man who meant so much to many in Bloomfield.  “This is an opportunity for us to pay tribute and to remember him,” said Richard Eisenhauer, one of many organizers of the event.

It was always important to Pastor that there be no fee for this presentation.  “It is our privilege to share the love of Jesus with you,” Pastor would say.  He wanted the Live Nativity to be a ‘gift’ to the community.  This year’s presentation, Christmas From A-Fahr, will include segments from each of the past presentations – one last ‘gift’ from Pastor Fahr.  Several of Pastor’s family members will participate as they have in previous years.  The Live Nativity will also feature volunteers in costume to reenact the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ, an assortment of live animals, many familiar hymns, special duets and solos.

Christmas From A-Fahr will be presented at the Harm and Tulleys Event Center in Bloomfield, on Sunday, November 18th at 4:00 p.m.  Refreshments will be served afterwards.  There is no fee or free will offering.  Everyone is welcomed to join in this special celebration of our Savior’s birth.  This Live Nativity is presented by First Trinity, Bloomfield and Golgotha, Wausa.  There is no heat in the building so please dress accordingly.  You may want to bring a blanket to sit on as the bleachers can be chilly.
