THE FOLLOWING LETTER HAS BEEN RECEIVED FROM REV. TIM AND LISA BECKENDORF:

Dear Friends at Immanuel,

Thank you so much for your continued gifts in support of our ministry and Lutheran Bible Translators.  You are a blessing to us and to the people we serve.  Thank you.

We are all doing well, and the ministry continues to go forward (though sometimes very slowly).  Two weeks ago Tim and the translators got together representatives from every  major Khwe village and they spent a wholeday going over some key translation issues, like which dialect to use, how to spell people/place names, and how to spell the names of the books of the Bible.  They also discussed how the communities can support this translation project.  At first they all thought they could do nothing since everyone is so poor, they really have no money.  But then Tim pointed out that the project also needs people who spread the word back to their villages, people who can teach and encourage literacy, etc. Yes, they could do that!  It is good to see them feeling that they can do somethingfor themselves and beginning to take ownership of their project.

Thank you again for supporting us.

                        God Bless,

                                    Rev. Tim and Lisa Beckendorf

                                                Aaron & Andrew

Please Note!!  The original letter is posted on the bulletin board in the front entry of the church.

REMINDER!!!  DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME ENDS NEXT SUNDAY,

NOVEMBER 6th!!!   Turn your clocks back one hour before you go to bed on Saturday night so that you get that extra hour of sleep that you lost last spring.

THE FOLLOWING UPDATE HAS BEEN RECEIVED FROM MICHAEL AND RACHAEL ERDMAN:

Greetings from St. Louis,

Moving back to St. Louis at the end of August was both a blessing and a curse.

It was a blessing because it allowed us to stay longer in Osmond, something which

Rachael and I already miss greatly.  It also allowed us to skip the summer heat of

St. Louis, which is no small matter.  However, moving back so close to the start of

classes has been an interesting challenge.  We had less than a week to unpack and

get ready before classes started.  Progress has been slow, but we are getting there.

At the time I write this letter, we are getting close to being unpacked.

My classes so far have been very rewarding.  Since I am now a fourth year

student, I get priority for choosing classes.  As such, I was able to pick some very

useful classes, and I have been amazed at how much I have learned already.

As I reunite with my classmates, we all swap stories about how our vicarages

went.  As a result, I spend a lot of time thinking of you and the wonderful

reception you gave us while we were among you.  You have truly been a blessing

in our lives, and for that we are very grateful.

In Christ,    Michael and Rachael Erdman

Proceeds from the sales go to assist the ARC of Norfolk in their work for children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families.
