CONFIRMATION RECOGNITION hosted by the LWML and Thrivent, will be held next Sunday evening, March 13, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Guest speakers will be Preston and Faith Doerr. LWML members will reveal their Secret Pals. Lunch will follow the program. All LWML members and their spouses, the Confirmands and their families, and the Chairmen of each organization of our church are invited to attend.

 

QUILT TYING will be held tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.

 

WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON BIBLE CLASS will meet at 1:30 p.m. this Wednesday afternoon, March 9th at the home of Charlotte Blunck.

 

MIDWEEK & CONFIRMATION CLASSES will be held Wednesday afternoon at 3:45 p.m. 7th grade students do not need to attend as they are done for this year.

 

DURING THE LENTEN SEASON, Pastor Emery will be leading a Bible Study at 6:00 p.m. before the Lenten Worship services on Wednesday evenings. This study will enhance the readings and sermon for the evening worship service that follows. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

 

LENTEN WORSHIP SERVICES will be held on Wednesday evening, March 9th, beginning at 7:00 p.m.

 

THE 5TH & 6TH GRADE MIDWEEK CLASSES will be hosting the Fellowship Hour following this week's Lenten Service. The proceeds from the freewill donations will be sent to Sara Kanoy, a missionary in Kenya.

 

BIBLE STUDY will be held on Thursday morning beginning at 9:00 a.m. Everyone is welcome to join us as we study next week's scripture readings.

 

THE LADIES AID will meet this Thursday, March 10th at 2:00 p.m.

WINDSOR LOIN SUPPER: St. Peter Lutheran Church in Orchard, NE is having their Windsor Loin Supper on March 19th from 5:00-7:30 p.m. Being served will be Windsor Loin, cheesy potatoes, green beans, salads, & desserts. Tickets are being sold prior to the event, or at the door. Any ticket bought before the event will be entered into a drawing for a quilt. See any St. Peter's member for tickets. Adults are $10, Kids ages 5-10--$5, and kids 4 & under are free.

SINCE WE HAVE PUT IN A NEW SOUND AND VIDEO SYSTEM, we now have the old equipment to dispose of. A table has been set up in the rear of the fellowship hall with all of the video, sound equipment and speakers that we would like to see go to good homes. We also have the water fountain that was removed. If you would be interested in any of these items, please check them out and take what you want and please contact one of the following trustees: Mike Johnson, Randy Pfanstiel, Shawn Gansebom, Paul Koehler or Wayne Koehler. SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS: The second quarter of Sunday School starts next Sunday. A sign up for teachers is at the back of the church. We need teachers and substitutes, you may also teach in pairs, which works nicely. So even though someone may already be signed up, please consider teaching as a pair or a substitute.

It is by Grace we are saved, not our deeds. However, remember God does not want us to be passive Christians. In the 28th Chapter of Matthew, Jesus said "...go and make disciples of all nations,..." to make disciples you need to teach them. Help us prepare our youth to be disciples in Christ. They are the future of the Church, do not sit passively by. The Holy Spirit will guide you.

 

A POSTER IS POSTED IN THE BACK OF THE CHURCH FOR VOLUNTEER HELPERS to help with the remodeling of the parsonage. Volunteer help will be needed to defray some expenses including painting, staining and pulling up carpet and trim board. Please sign your name along with your telephone number and you will be contacted when help is needed.                             

 

TODAY IS THE FINAL DAY TO SIGN UP TO ORDER either of the two new publications from Concordia Publishing House at introductory prices. These new publications are "Know the Bible Now!" $15.00 (regular $19.99) and "The Big Book of New Testament Q & A" $25.00 (regular $34.99). Samples are displayed on a table in the rear of the church for you to examine. Orders can be paid for when books arrive.

ALASKA MISSION TRIP:  We are gauging interest in joining with Alaska Mission for Christ in leading VBS and completing a "hammer and nail" project for children and families that need the love of Christ in action.  AMC is a recognized service organization of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.  The trip would be in June.  If you have any interest in joining this project, please let Pastor Emery know today, as we need to give AMC an answer by tomorrow.

 

A CASE FOR CHARACTER:  TOWARD A LUTHERAN VIRTUE ETHICS will take place on Saturday, March 19, from 9:00 a.m. - 2:45 p.m. at Lutheran High Northeast.  This presentation will be led by Concordia Seminary professor, Dr. Joel Biermann, who has written a book on the topic.  A generous grant by the Kern Family Foundation provides the expertise of Dr. Biermann and lunch at no cost to the participants.

  As our culture shifts, the need for formation in outstanding character is becoming more important.  This seminar seeks to present a foundation for the work of instilling character in Christian people and explores concrete and practical ways this work is acdcomplished in daily life.  Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend!

 

OSMOND TEAMMATES:  As Christians we are called to serve.  The one to one transformative power of mentoring results in a ripple effect that over time, makes a huge difference and can impact families for generations.  The TeamMates Mentoring Program is a one to one, school-based mentoring program serving kids in 3rd through 12th grade that will support you in your quest to make that difference for a child.  Please consider this opportunity with our Osmond TeamMates chapter.  To learn how you can become a TeamMates Mentor please visit with any of the Program Coordinators and/or Board of Directors (list below).  You can also visit teammates.org and click "Become a TeamMates Mentor" to complete the application.

LENTEN DEVOTION BOOOKLETS: There are two types of Lenten Devotion booklets on the ledge below the bulletin boxes. If you would like one for the upcoming Lenten season, please feel free to pick one up this morning. One is entitled "Places of the Passion" and the other is "God's Greatest Sacrifice."

DURING THE LENTEN SEASON, Pastor Emery will be leading a Bible Study at 6:00 p.m. before the Lenten Worship services on Wednesday evenings. This study will enhance the readings and sermon for the evening worship service that follows. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

LENTEN WORSHIP SERVICES will be held on Wednesday evenings, beginning with Ash Wednesday, February 10th. Holy Communion will be held during the Ash Wednesday service. The Lenten worship services will begin at 7:00 p.m. throughout the Lenten season.

ALASKA MISSION TRIP We are gauging interest in joining with Alaska Missions for Christ in leading VBS and completing a "hammer and nail" project for children and families that need the love of Christ in action. AMC is a recognized service organization of The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod. The trip would be in June. If you have any interest in joining this project, please let Pastor Emery know this week. We need to give AMC an answer by Feb. 15th!

A CASE FOR CHARACTER: TOWARD A LUTHERAN VIRTUE ETHICS will take place on Saturday, March 19, 9:00 – 2:45 at Lutheran High Northeast. This presentation will be lead by Concordia Seminary professor, Dr. Joel Biermann, who has written a book on the topic. A generous grant by the Kern Family Foundation provides the expertise of Dr. Biermann and lunch at no cost to the participants.

As our culture shifts, the need for formation in outstanding character is becoming more important. This seminar seeks to present a foundation for the work of instilling character in Christian people and explores concrete and practical ways this work is accomplished in daily life.

SINCE WE HAVE PUT IN A NEW SOUND AND VIDEO SYSTEM, we now have the old equipment to dispose of. We also have the water fountain that was taken out of the meeting room north of the kitchen. A FUND STILL REMAINS OPEN for donations to the audio/visual project. Total cost was $41,505.59 and $24,198.41 in donations and memorials have been received, which leaves $17,307.18 still needed to complete the project.

DURING THE LENTEN SEASON, Pastor Emery will be leading a Bible Study at 6:00 p.m. before the Lenten Worship services on Wednesday evenings. This study will enhance the readings and sermon for the evening worship service that follows. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

 

LENTEN WORSHIP SERVICES will be held on Wednesday evenings, beginning with Ash Wednesday, February 10th. Holy Communion will be held during the Ash Wednesday service. The Lenten worship services will begin at 7:00 p.m. throughout the Lenten season.

 

CONCORDIA PUBLISHING HOUSE is offering two new publications at introductory prices. These new publications are "Know the Bible Now!" and "The Big Book of New Testament Q & A". A sample of ''The Big Book of New Testament Q & A" is displayed on a table in the rear of the church for you to examine and a sample copy of "Know the Bible Now!" will be displayed as soon as we receive it. Introductory special prices are in effect until February 29, 2016. If you are interested, please see the poster displayed with the sample copy and sign the order blank also located by the sample and display. Orders are needed by February 28, 2016. A blue flyer bulletin insert is also included in today's worship folder. Orders can be paid for when the books arrive.

 

HAVE YOU EVER WANTED TO BE MORE INVOLVED IN THE MISSION OF SPREADING THE GOSPEL, but are unable to attend LWML meetings? The Nebraska North District LWML would like you to think about how you can be involved in God's work where he has placed you! There is a program called LWML Mailbox Members. REMINDER: The 2016 NORFOLK CIRCUIT BIBLE INSTITUTE entitled "Spiritual Warfare" continues today. The session will run from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 416 W. Park Avenue, Norfolk, NE and the cost is free. Today Rev. Michael Awe of Tilden will present the topic--"Christ v. Flesh".

 

VOLUNREEERS ARE NEEDED to assist with the programing of the carillon.  If you are interested in learning how to program the carillon, please contact Sarah Trowbridge, as she would like to be able to work with you while she is still in Osmond.

LUTHERAN BIBLE INSTITUTE: Weather permitting, Grace Lutheran Church in Norfolk will host The Norfolk Circuit 2016 Bible Institute on January 10th, 17th, and 24th from 1:30 – 4:30 each Sunday afternoon, with a make-up date of January 31st. The topic this year is a timely one: "Spiritual Warfare." We will have three presenters: Rev. Dan Feusse, Rev. Leon Rosenthal, and Rev. Michael Awe. Each will present one installment of the theme, teaching us how Christ has won the war against Satan, World, and Flesh. They will also teach us how Christ gives us strength in our daily battles against these enemies. Check out the insert in today's bulletin for more information. PLEASE NOTE: At this time the Plainview Circuit does not have a Bible Institute planned, so please make plans to attend the one in Norfolk, if you would like to attend a Bible Institute.

 

THE FIRST QUARTERLY ADMINISTRATIVE BOARD MEETINGS AND CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING OF 2016 will be held a week from Wednesday, January 13th. The board meetings meet at 7:30 p.m. followed by the council meeting at 8:30 p.m.

The snack for yesterday was taken care of, but we still need volunteers to provide approximately 8 dozen rolls or donuts for next Saturday, December 19th. A sign-up sheet is posted in the rear of the church for anyone wishing to help out and donate. If you could help donate rolls or donuts, it would be very much appreciated.

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM PRACTICE will be held on Saturday, December 12th and 19th from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. with one final run through during the Sunday School hour on Sunday, December 20. The Last Saturday practice, on December 19th is the ONLY practice the 3 year olds, 4 year olds, and preschool age children will need to be at. Kindergarten thru 8th grade children will be needed at all of the practices. We have started practicing the music for the program and will continue to learn the songs in the Sunday School hour. SUNDAY SCHOOL AND ADULT BIBLE CLASS will be held this morning.

A MEETING WILL BE HELD NEXT SUNDAY MORNING FOLLOWING THE WORSHIP SERVICE to give the final report for the Windsor Loin Dinner and to distribute the funds from the proceeds.

THE GOLGOTHA LUTHERAN CHURCH HARVEST DINNER is being held today from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Golgotha Fellowship Hall. They will serve Swiss steak, mashed potatoes, sweet corn, and a variety of salads and great tasting homemade desserts. The costs are $10.00 for adults, K-6 are $6.00 and preschool aged children and under are free. Also, there will be children's activities downstairs after they are done eating.

THE ST. PAUL (VENUS ) HUNTER'S BREAKFAST will continue today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. They are serving pancakes, sausages, soup and sandwiches. There will be a free will donation to benefit Henley and Drake Mitteis, infant twins of Bryce and Kelsey Mitteis. Additional funding applied for from antelope/Knox Chapter of Thrivent Financial.

A NEW QUARTER OF SUNDAY SCHOOL will begin in December. There is a sign-up sheet at the back of the church if you are interested in teaching Sunday School.

PREPARATIONS ARE BEGINNING FOR THE CHRISTMAS PROGRAM. If your children are going to be able to be in the Christmas Eve program, please let Kristie or Curtis know.

Gary Thies, LC-MS Mission Development Counselor will b3e serving as Master of Ceremonies and also be the featured speaker for the evening. The Big Mission Event begins with a 5:00 p.m. social hour, followed by a 6:00 p.m. dinner. Tickets are available for a donation of $50 per person from Christ Lutheran Church, 605 South Fifth Street, Norfolk (371-1210). No tickets will be sold at the door.

THE LONG YELLOW AND ORANGE EXTENSION CORDS ARE MISSING FROM THE JANITORS ROOM. If you used or borrowed them or put them somewhere else, please return them as they are needed to plug in the vacuum cleaners when cleaning.

LADIES--There are many cake pans, bowls, containers and pie plates on the table in the kitchen that are left from the Windsor Loin Dinner, funerals, senior dinner and other events held here at church.  Please check them out as soon as possible, so that we can get the tables cleaned off before the bazaar and other church events.  Even if you don't remember leaving something in the kitchen, please check them out, as you may have forgotten about them.  Thank You.
