ADOPT-A-COLLEGE STUDENT !

When we sent the cards and gift cards in December, we heard from so many kids saying how much they appreciated them, and what it meant to them. They appreciate knowing that we as a church are thinking of them. This time we would like to get more of you involved by adopting 1 or more college students.

We have 39 college students who could use some extra love and support, especially as they approach the end of the year and final exams.

Adoption requirements are: send a care package to the student postmarked no later than April 24th, to help students prepare for finals week. Care Packages must include: goodies (store bought or homemade), a letter from Pastor Emery (just ask Denise for a copy), and a note of encouragement from you. Optional items: a gift card to a fast food restaurant (for a late-study night snack run), and something fun (toy, game etc. (We actually will have a few silly things in the office that you might want to use). Choices will be given by random selection and can remain anonymous if you so choose.

If interested, please contact Pastor Emery or Denise, and they will give you the student's name and mailing information.

(Please note!! We still have quite a few names left and the deadline date is drawing near to get them sent out)

UPDATING YOU ON MY MAYO PROGRESS:  The end of the year test at Rochester was to show where/if any lymphatic system had a leak. It definitely showed up, so a vascular surgeon wanted to fix it by tying it off.  He didn't want to combine his surgery with the urology surgery to remove the kidney, so we returned to Rochester for that surgery.  "Cautiously optimistic" is how the surgeon described the outcome because he discovered multiple leaks and tied off the major ones, hoping the ones he couldn't pinpoint wouldn't be bad enough to continue the problem of fluid building in my obdomen.  Unfortunately my back is continuing to give me pain, and I'm currently searching for some relief from that.  Pain medication causes other problems so the vicious cycle goes on.  But I'm not giving up.  I'm definitely slowing down, but my prayer is to return to serving Immanuel and the Lord as soon as I'm able.  Pastor Trowbridge

EVEN IF YOU DIDN'T FURNISH A POINSETTIA TO DECORATE THE CHURCH, but would like one, please feel free to take one home. If you take one of the pink and white plants in a plastic pot that was displayed in the cross, please bring the pot back, so that it can be used again next year. If you don't take them this morning, they will be thrown away.

SO THAT EVERYONE HEARS THE SAME INFORMATION, I've decided to let you all know what has been happening to me and my visits to Mayo Clinic. I went to Rochester after Christmas expecting to have surgery to remove the cancerous ureter and the left kidney (more as preventative medicine as it is currently healthy.) I was surprised to learn that the doctors discuss you behind your back and had planned to do only a laser procedure, saving the "big surgery" until after a decision has been made regarding all the fluid that accumulates in my abdomen. They scheduled me to see a vascular surgeon who ordered a test that dyes the lymph fluid in order to spot a leak. No surprise, they found the leak which hasn't healed while doing the liquid diet therapy for two months as they'd hoped. The plan now is for the vascular surgeon to return from a vacation, study my scan, and confer with the urology surgeons to plan the "big surgery" in which both problems will be addressed. Until that plan is made, I intend to continue as I have been, working among you, serving Sundays, and trying to live life as normal as I can. Thank you all for your many prayers and cards and especially the monetary assistance with the motel bill for this last extended stay in Minnesota. Had the weather been nicer, we could have returned home then driven back, but the negative wind-chills just kept us locked in our room!

SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL:  This summer
for Sunday school teachers, we will be looking to the parents to each take one
Sunday to teach grades 3 thru 5.  There
is a sign-up sheet in the Sunday school devotional room.  In doing the sign-up this way, the parents
who teach throughout the school year will be given a break.  The first Sunday will be next Sunday, June 1st,
be sure to sign up right away to get a Sunday that works best for you.

This summer the Sunday School will be learning about the
prayer that Jesus taught us to pray.  That’s
right --- The Lord’s Prayer !  Things will be a little different during the
summer ---

Nursery – 2nd Grade will meet together to sing songs, play games and do crafts while
learning the Lord’s Prayer.  Janet Pfanstiel will be your teacher but could use a helper each Sunday.  A sign-up sheet will be posted on the Sunday
School office door.

            3rd – 5th Grades will meet together.  A
volunteer parent or grandparent will be needed to teach this group each
week.  This sign-up sheet will also be
posted on the Sunday School office door.
Kristie will have that teaching material ready for you to pick up the
week ahead of time.

6th – 8th Grades will meet with the High school
class under the direction of Dwight Kahny.
Students, this will be your best opportunity to ask any question you
dared not ask anyone else (concerning the Bible, of course).  Dwight has a way of making Bible study
fun!  Go to class and you will see…
