DO YOU NEED A GIFT FOR A LOVED ONE WHO “HAS EVERYTHING” THIS CHRISTMAS?  Treasured Tales:  Life Lessons from the Donkey Den and Dog House  is a book you might consider.  The Treasured Tales are parable-like stories that were written by Pastor Terry Timm for Zion Lutheran Church in Leigh, Nebraska, the congregation he was serving when God took him home.  Pastor Timm observed the behaviors of the animals he owned and loved, he made comparisons to human behaviors, and then made spiritual applications.  Many have loved this book!  You can order Treasured Tales from The Abbey Christian Store in Norfolk, NE.  (402)379-0712.

JOY UN-SPEAK-A-BELL!  Kristine Stout, plays 3 octaves (37 bells) of English hand-bells all by herself!  She and her husband will bring their traveling ministry to Zion Lutheran Church, Pierce, NE, on Sunday November 24, at 2:00 p.m.  Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door.  Proceeds will benefit missions.  Reserve your ticket by calling the church office 402-329-4313 or LWML members at 402-371-2394 or 402-329-4628.

THE FLOWERS AT THE ALTAR are from the funeral of Mrs. Pam Schieffer.  We thank her family for sharing them with us and extend our sincere sympathy.

DEAR MEMBERS & FRIENDS OF IMMANUEL,

“He is in your hands; but you must spare his life,” God said to Satan regarding His servant Job.  Well, we have no cattle, our children are gone (thankfully alive and independent!), no manservants nor maidservants, and not a single camel in sight.  Our tomato crop is pathetic (but the cucumbers have been great!) So is God pulling a “Job” on me?  I’ve survived Vietnam, several surgeries, lymphoma times two, and now I am facing bladder cancer.  By no means!  God has blessed me throughout my lifetime and those blessings surpass whatever trials have come my way.

What can we all learn from this?  That being spiritually alive and active is the best exercise to fight off all the perils of this world.  Prayer.  Bible study.  Worship.  All those are vitamins and antibiotics worthy of prescription to all Christians.  With all that on my side, what more can I ask?  God promises me that nothing can separate me from His love, and that He works for the good of those who love Him.  I trust His promises.  I pray that you will too.

                                                                        In His Name,

                                                                        Gary Trowbridge
