SUNDAY SCHOOL: Today the children learn about Samson. Samson toyed with the LORD's grace. He counted on God's grace to be available whenever and wherever he needed it. Samson threw caution to the wind thinking that God would always rescue him. We do that today, probably more often than we know or admit. We think that we can sin and that God, in His grace and mercy, will always forgive us and overlook our sin. After all, if we sin more, then God can forgive more – right?! God's grace and mercy do come to an end when we continue to press God's limits. Just look at what happened to Pharaoh!

Samson is a prototype of Jesus. Samson destroyed the gates and supports of the palace, thus destroying the Philistine powers. Jesus destroyed the gates of hell, thus destroying the powers of sin, death and the devil.

God bless you, Lakyn.

SUNDAY SCHOOL: Today the children will learn about Gideon. A very important element in this lesson is how God is at work in the story of the Israelites versus the Midianites. Gideon defeated the Midianites with an army of 300 men. They were outnumbered nearly 450 to 1! That's beyond comprehension! But God does things in usual ways to make a point. Too often we Christians think that we have to do something in order for our success to be achieved. Most often this happens when we think about our own salvation. Sadly, we miss the point in this story that it is God who secures the victory, and it is God at work in our lives to secure the victory for you and me. Even little victories in our everyday living can be attributed to God. We all need to begin to see this and give God the glory for His work on our behalf in our lives!

SUNDAY SCHOOL: "Deborah" Through the unlikely acts of Deborah, Barak, and Jael, God freed His people from the tyranny of sin and death. Ever since God told Satan that his head would be crushed by the heel of Eve's "offspring," the devil knew his undoing would come through a woman. Even as he defeated Eve through deceit, so through one of Eve's daughters his defeat would come. Deborah and Jael are two examples of Old Testament women who foreshadowed the Virgin, through whom everlasting victory would come in the promised offspring, Jesus.

SUNDAY SCHOOL: "The Fall of Jericho" is this week's lesson for the students in Sunday School. Through His servant, Joshua, God gave the Israelites victory over Jericho by causing its fortress walls to fall. Through Jesus Christ, God gives us victory over our enemy, Satan, causing the fortress of sin and death to fall and assuring us that we are His people.

Whatever our own "Jericho"- our piety, our successes, our spiritual resume – whatever walls in which we take pride, those walls must come down. For our own good, God takes them down. He reveals that His is all we need. All we need we have in Him in abundance. Christ is our mighty fortress, our defenses, our shield, and He in whom we take refuge.
