WE WELCOME EVERYONE who has worshipped with us this morning. We hope you will be able to worship with us again soon.

THE CANDLELIGHTERS for today are Spencer Hille and Baylen Guenther. Next Sunday will be Owen Severson and Blake Bahr.

OUR READER for this morning is Larry Krohn and next Sunday, the reader will be Paul Koehler. Helping with communion next Sunday Mike Johnson and Larry Krohn.

ADULT CONFIRMATION is being held this morning for Jennae Marie Kester. Jennae’s confirmation verse is John 15:5. We welcome Jennae as a communicant member of Immanuel.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL – Today is the last of four Sundays for our “virtual VBS lessons”. Packets will be distributed to families after church at both entrances.

PROMOTION SUNDAY for our Sunday School will be held in two weeks on September 13th. Sundae Sunday will be observed. Sunday school classes will begin on September 20th.

THIS IS THE LIFE & WORSHIP SERVICES THROUGH MAIN STREET LIVING are held each Sunday on KCAU-9 from Sioux City at 10:00 and 10:30 respectively. Today on This is the Life -“Run Away” – Away we go, back to where we started from. The worship service today is led by Rev. Trevor Freudenburg from Calvary Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa.

THE LUTHERAN HOUR—“Bringing Christ to the Nations and the Nations to the Church” on WJAG each Sunday at 7:30 A.M. and 12:30 P.M. Today, “It’s Not Over ‘till Jesus Says It’s Over” with Lutheran Hour Speaker, Rev. Dr. Gregory Seltz. (Archives August) James and Margaret Broekemeier and family are sponsoring today’s broadcast of The Lutheran Hour in memory of their son, James. James was called to eternal glory on January 8, 2018.

ADDITIONAL DONATIONS NEEDED: The cemetery directory committee is asking for more donations so that the shelter for the cemetery directory can be finished. Approximately $6,000 is still needed. Your donations can be put in the offering and we ask that you please note on your check and envelope that is what your donation is for.

PASTOR EMERY will be on vacation from Wednesday through Labor Day. Call an Elder for pastoral care.

WHAT ABOUT BOOKS have been revised and are available for you. These books are easy to read and explain what Lutherans believe and teach about topics important for today. They are available near the bulletin boxes.

Today on This is the Life -“Red Trap” – A loving father’s son became conflicted and lost. Fortunately, he was surrounded by people who cared. The worship service today is led by Rev. Matthew Richard Alderson, son of Curtis Alderson and Jill Heemstra, was born June 29, 2006 and was baptized by Rev. Gary Trowbridge on October 22, 2006. His sponsors are Jeremy Heemstra, Cary Alderson and Neil Alderson. His Confirmation verse is Matthew 28:20. “and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Hunter Rae Buchanan, son of Ryan and Kelli Buchanan, was born October 25, 2005 and was baptized by Rev. Glen Emery on December 10, 2016. His sponsors are Danielle Buchanan, Kody Dunn and Mike and Jo Geneski. His confirmation verse is Luke 11:28. “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it!”

Baylen Joseph Guenther, son of Brian and Tiffany Guenther, was born April 30, 2006 and was baptized by Rev. Gary Trowbridge on May 28, 2006. His sponsors are Lisa Johnson, Scott Anderson, Mary Miller and Rita Guenther. His confirmation verse is Philippians 4:13. “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”

Spencer Dennis Hille, son of Cory and Michelle Hille, was born on May 6, 2005 and baptized by Rev. Gary Trowbridge on July 3, 2005. His sponsors are Dave Hille and Jaimie Larson. His confirmation verse is Luke 1:37. “For nothing will be impossible with God.”

Anna Lillian Kahny, daughter of Dwight and Donna Kahny, was born March 23, 2006 and was baptized by Rev. Gary Trowbridge on August 6, 2006. Her sponsors are Rev. David and Debra Ohlman. Her confirmation verse is Romans 8:38-39. “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Juliana Rae Kumm, daughter of Anthony and Cassandra Micklevitz, was born on March 23, 2006 and was baptized by Rev. Gary Trowbridge on November 17, 2013. Her sponsors are Montana and Cindy Miller. Her confirmation verse is Joshua 1:9. “Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Caleb Grant Miller, son of Kari Miller and Clayton Krueger, was born on November 1, 2005 and was baptized on October 5, 2006. His sponsors are Dwight Kahny and Rodney Krueger. His confirmation verse is Hebrews 13:5. “Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have; for he has said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.”’

Owen Matthew Severson, son of Matt and Keri Severson, was born on June 16, 2005 and baptized by Rev. Eric on October 15, 2005. His sponsors are Tara and Jason Tracy. His confirmation verse is 2 Corinthians 5:7. “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

CONFIRMATION RECOGNITION COFFEE AND ROLLS is being held this morning to honor the 8th grade Confirmation class. CONFIRMATION will be held here at Immanuel next Sunday during our worship service. NOMINATING COMMITTEE MEETING will be held here tonight at 7:00 p.m. All second-year officers are asked to please attend this meeting to work on finding members to fill positions on the church council and committees for the upcoming year.

YOU ARE INVITED to a fellowship hour on Sunday, August 16th, after the worship service, to honor this year’s Confirmation class. Rolls and coffee will be served. Please plan to stay and congratulate them and welcome them. 

 

Today we welcome Rev. James Carretto as our worship leader. His message, "The Gods of Fear vs Jesus!" based upon our Gospel reading. Pastor Emery and Vickie are on a short vacation with their family and will return late Wednesday afternoon. If you need pastoral care, you may contact an elder for help, or you may contact Rev.
